Body Found in Horsham Cemetery (Video) - Updated

Update 9:50 p.m.: The victim 16-year-old Nick Carr used an aluminum ladder to climb the 174-foot-tall bell tower at Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Horsham late Sunday afternoon.

Sources close to the teen say that he was intoxicated shortly before he fell to his death but authorities did not mention that in an afternoon news release on the teen's death.

A Facebook page set up for the victim has over 2,000 followers already and students set up a candle memorial for the teen.

Update 11:45 a.m.: Sources close the investigation tell Phillyburbs.com the teen who was 16-years-old feel from the top of the 174-foot-tall tower. Investigators believe foul play was no tinvolved in the teens death.

9:06 a.m.: The body of a teenager was found yesterday afternoon at the Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Horsham township.

The body is believed to be that of a high school student at nearby Hatboro-Horsham High School, the school reports that grief counselors will be on hand today.

"I know I speak for the entire high school staff when I say that our sympathies go out to this teenager. We are committed to working together during this sad time to help the students of our high school handle this loss” said Curtis Griffin the superintendent of the Hatboro-Horsham School District.

The body was found near the cemetery's 174-foot-tall Tower of Chimes which is the architectural focal point of the 81-year-old cemetery.

Police were dispatched to the cemetery after receiving a 9-1-1 call reporting suspicious activity at the 160 acre cemetery.

Members of the Horsham Fire Department were called to the scene for a special service call to provide lighting for investigators as the sun began to set.


Horsham police are investigating along with county detectives and the coroner.
