Berkman, Pettitte, Star in Yanks Win.

By Jeff Bohen

There is something about the New York Yankees that makes the Minnesota Twins knees buckle, as the pinstripes beat them again last night 5-2 in Minnesota. Since 2003 the Yankees are 11-2 against the Twins in first round games and look to close out the series at the museum called Yankee stadium Saturday night.

Taking a 2-0 games lead in the best of five series is the headline grabber.

Lance Berkman hitting his first home run in a Yankee uniform since joining the team, could also be "The Story," but that isn't the case.

Andy Pettitte, is the story and as Derek Jeter pointed out, "its nothing new for him." Pettitte's 41st postseason start, 19th win, most in playoff history is the game story.

There were doubts about Pettitte's health, not pitching since late May, he joined the Yankee rotation again in early September and didn't look like the guy who earned five rings in glory years past. No one knew what to expect for his Game 2 start.

He got in to trouble early. A bases loaded jam in the 2nd , giving up only one run, getting J.J. Hardy on a liner to second to get out the jam. Pettitte, dibbled, dabbled, and splinterd bats retiring the next 12 in a row. Cap pulled down, peering in to the plate, "he attacked. he was aggressive, establishing the cutter," Jorge Posada said.

Orlando Hudson, the only Twin to get the fat part of the bat on a Pettitte pitch homered to tie it at two in the sixth.

Hudson said, "the old man can throw it, he knows what he's doing," in the Twins clubhouse where the sound of a sweeping broom is reality.

Pettitte buys himself one more post season start, going for win number 21.

It wasn't vintage, Pettitte, in form but that didn't seem to matter, the Yankees are the Twins bogey-man.
